Sunday 24th – after a great days skiing we left Val Thorens and headed down the valley stopping at Les Menuires and what a crap place that is – all thats bad in a French ski resort a concrete jungle :( We had to go all the way back to Moutiers and then Albertville before heading to Italy !!! We were getting tired by now and stopped as soon as we saw something nice which happened to be a lovely Lac just off the motorway called Plan d’eau des Hurtieres.
Monday 25th – after our best night sleep of this holiday, it was so quiet we set off on the A routes along the valley following the river Arc :) Our plan was to head to Valloire and see if the Col du Gaibier was open but sadly it was closed so we continued toward the Tunnel de Frejus and came across Orelle and stopped here. This is where the Three Valleys cable links you into the back of Val Thorens where we skied down to yesterday !!!! It was a nice spot and will bear this in mind for future holidays.Nearing the Italian border we saw a sign to Valfrejus and little ski resort and as it was nearly dinner time we decided to give it a look. We are glad we did as it is a nice spot surrounded by deep gorges and stunning views.
We parked in a car park near the start of a 2/3 hour mountain walk past the Chapelle Du Charmaix so after a quick lunch we set off down the the Chapel a great place built on the side of a gorge with a wonderful bridge and a tumbling stream :) we then set off up hill – and it was steep !!!! it is a guided walk for snow shoe users (when there is snow) and every few hundred metres there was a sign detailing local plants, birds and animals – the only thing I managed to see was a quick glimpse of a marmot – sadly Mag missed it :(We past loads of wild flowers and cascades !!!! then the top of the Valfreius four man lift, all packed away for the summer then under the Cable car and back down using tracks and piste seeing the biggest ants nest ever !!!
We were back at the van knackered as usual and more food and just relax – we decide to stop here for the night!!!!
